I began writing for children by first writing stories and sermons for the children I taught in Junior Church. Later, I wrote children’s bulletins based on the topic of the pastor’s sermon and that Sunday’s church service. A friend at church added clip art to the words to produce these children’s activity pages, which helped children listen to the sermon and learn from it. And, because the children’s bulletins were tied to both the sermon and the church service, they helped children engage in the total church experience. Occasionally, I wrote stories for the children’s messages presented during the church services.
Later, Kidz Chat and Power Station Sunday School take-home papers each published one of my stories, Pockets magazine ran one of my Christmas stories, and most recently, Focus on the Family Clubhouse, Jr. magazine published several of my rebus stories.
I’ve also written for adults, and have been published in The Upper Room devotional, as well as Splickety Prime, Christian Communicator, and Purpose magazines.
For several years, I interviewed members of my church and wrote a two-page article about the person/family for the monthly church newsletter.
I am active in my writer’s group, the Ocala chapter of Word Weavers, International, and helped to cofound and lead our local chapter.
I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Maryland.
